after 8 days of waiting, finally a comp on a great looking wildseeloder! a hard snowpack and bad weather kept us from riding earlier, but it was worth waiting! 30 cm of fresh snow were smooth to ride, at least as long as you did ot hit any other tracks ((-:
i had a bit of a motivation problem to be honest, after 2 and a half months of traveling, competing and after all not snowboarding as much as i am used to....but being a daddy just amazing and whenever i am home these days time with the kids is simply more important than time on the mountain. 8th place here kicked me back a bit in the overalls to 11th, which means i am not going to the finals in verbier ))-: but winning in hochfügen and engadin (both 4* fwq) secures my spot on the tour for 2014 and i am stoked to be back next year with fresh motivation!! one more comp this week at the open faces event at the kitzsteinhorn before it`s off to chamonix for some ation filming......but more on that later!
i am pretty bummed out because i felt good at the top, but did not ride the way i wanted, too slow and also realizing that parts of my line were simply not well planed.
a week of chilltime at home should bring the motivation back for next week`s event in fieberbrunn - c u all there i hope!!!!
unreal....the 3rd victory in 1 week, this time in austria.
incredible conditions on the eastface made a a perfect day for everybody riding and watching (including my family). i had a fast run an cleaned the runout where i crashed last year.
after working on my riding and improving on the tour over the last weeks, finally the first victory of the season. on my favourite competition mountain ever, mt. corvatsch in engadin, i managed to stay ahead of world tour college jamie rizuto from canada to take home first place. it was a great day with over 100 competitors from all over the world and good freeride vibes. this gives me confidence to push it evene harder on the tour as well for the second part of the season. on the day after the qualifier, the organizers staged the world`s first ever parallel freeride comp, where 2 riders are in the face at the same time. i managed to stey on my feet in pretty sh...y conditions and claimed my second victory in 2 days, right in the line with my strain of success here: 10 participations over 12 years and just as many podiums! check out the details below, after the pics.
it was an amazing morning, with my low bib i was at the start half an hour before sunrise, pretty amazing. condotinos were quite good, a few hardpacked patches but power otherwise. i still feel uncomfortable going bigger on my drops, but it is gettig better as the season goes on. my riding is getting faster, which is good (-: unfortunately i went into a small couloir at the end of my run which was icy and i had to do a laybackslide to come out, otherwise i may have made the podium.... the fwt takes a break now until early february in kirkwood, usa. but i will be doing the fwq`s in engadin, hochfügen and stubai, so c u there!
...to be in the right mental state for the next comp after a crash, and so it was for me in courmayeur.
i had a nice upper part but then took away too much speed for hte drops in the lower part of the face, giving away a lot of points that would have put me closer to the podium.
but there are good memories as well from coumayeur, like riding poder at the famous south side of mont blanc around the helbronner and the italien hospitality.
we are now already in chamonix, hoping to be riding as here as early as saturday the 26th of january.
watch the coumayeur highlights HERE and stay tuned!
it was a long wait in revelstoke for the first stop of the first stop of the 2013 freeride world tour.
we arrived in a snowstorm and it stayed like that for a full week, allowing us some fun treeskiing but not much more.
the upper part of mt. mackenzie which hosts the ski resort stayed hidden in the fog, and so did out contest venue.
the canadians are crazy here though, tracking out the powder everywhere, that is really everywhere!!!
finally the weather cleared up a bit for a facecheck and on the last day of the official waiting period we took the gondola at 6.30 and hiked up towards the mac daddy face.
it looked very promising in the morning sun.....
i was super motivated and dropped into my line for a solid and fast upper part, but at one of the most exposed spots of the mountain i hit a rock hidden in the sluff an did a full sideflip......
after many years with the rad air tanker crew i join xavier delerue and many more strong riders in the rossignol freeride department.
i tested the boards last week on the glacier together with hauni and am pretty stoked about the performance!!
the new 2014 boards designed by xavier himself will arrive in a few weeks and i am looking forward to testing those as well, especially since there will be one board in my favourite length, but this is still secret until ispo in februray
