Austrians win the Parallel Freeride Contest
Successful world premiere at the 11th ENGADINSNOW
the snowboarder Flo Orley and the skier Raphael Webhofer are the winners of the first Parallel Freeride Contest worldwide. The new format was not only spectacular and exciting for the riders but also for the audience. Even though the conditions were challenging, the premiere at Corvatsch was successful.

Yesterday, the sun was shining for the “Freeride World Qualifier”. Unfortunately, the weather changed until today and some clouds showed up. Furthermore, the snow conditions were very challenging. Two Austrians, both from Innsbruck, could make the best out of the situation. One of them as snowboarder (37), who belongs to the oldies at the Freeride World Tour, the other as a newcomer with his 18 years. They are called Flo Orley and Raphael Webhofer. They are the first winners of the Freeride Parallel Contest:
A format for the future
In total, eight skiers and four snowboarders took part in this spectacular event. The freeriders started in pairs of two. In knockout rounds, the better qualified himself for the next round. Sometimes, the riders were nearly next to each other and sometimes they were hundred meters off. The audience could follow the different possibilities and riding styles the Fuorcla Face at Corvatsch offers. “A cool format, it’s easy to spot the better rider”, said Headjudge Dion Newport.
The Swiss Julien Zambetti on 2nd place
The Austrian Flo Orley overcame the Swiss Julien Zambetti in the finals. Flo felt more confident at his Cliff Drops. “It was great, even though the snow was not that good. Such new formats will have a positive impact on the freeride sport”, says the experienced rider who claimed the podium for the 11th time.

Doublewin for Austria
Raphael Webhofer had to deal with his friend Matthias Haunholder (AUT) in the finals. The two skiers were riding next to each other for a while and showed a spectacular performance.  At the end, Webhofer caught the better line and won the run. “Everything happened as I’ve planned. Riding in pairs is quite tough, a format for the future”, says the rookie. The world premiere at the 11th ENGADINSNOW was filmed with a Cineflex Helikamera of the samcam.tv company, to capture the spectacular runs.
